School can be full of learning and friendship — and also noise, change, and social demands. A good partnership between family and school helps children thrive.

Share what you know

You know your child best. A short one-page profile — strengths, interests, triggers, and what helps — can be a helpful tool for teachers.

Supports that may help

  • Visual schedules and advance notice of changes
  • A quiet space for breaks
  • Clear, written instructions
  • Adjustments to seating, lighting, or noise

Know your local options

Educational rights vary by country. In the United States, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) provides for evaluations and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Families elsewhere should check with local education authorities about available supports.
